Blues Central 14 Apr 2024

Awesome April, we should call this. Big Al and The Wolfpack are in town to dose us up on a big portion of everything from Chicago blues to Baton Rouge swamp blues. Geoff Bushby on vocals and harp, Al James on guitar and vocals, Vern Tebbutt on the skins and Chris Harwood on bass. These guys are legends in Perth so it is a real treat seeing them this far South. Then straight after we have the Simon McInnis led band, Smokin’ Joe, a club band that is at the top of their game. This will be three hours of awesomeness you just won’t find anywhere else in the West.

Next weekend we have an absolute treat. By popular demand we have invited the talented and highly entertaining Tommy “Boss” Bosson & The Score, back to grace the Blues Central stage once more. These boys are absolute winners. They packed out the Bridgetown Hotel at Blues at Bridgetown in November with an unprecedented 1000 strong crowd. Following on from them is for the first time at Blues Central, Hooch, the rebirth of Stumptown. If you are into blues harp then get ready for your kinda blues, three solid hours of nothin’ but foot stompin’ blues. Don’t forget your membership guitar pick for a 10% discount on food and drinks.

Southern Right Blues band at Blues Central – Feb 2024

From the deep South a new rhythm comes to Blues Central this month. Southern Right originated in 80’s and 90’s Blues and Pub Rock scenes of Melbourne, Perth and Albany, but now offers a range of Blues from the classics to the latest anthems (and even an original or two!).
With guitars, drums, bass, Blues harp, sax and vocals – get ready for some rollicking Rhythm and Blues!
Born out of the jam nights of the legendary Blues Train sessions and as the house band at ‘Blues & Brews’ nights throughout Albany venues – the Southern Right Blues Band have played alongside such Blues luminaries as Les Karski, Geoff (Rev) Waldeck, Paul (Ringo) Meyers, Kim (Kimbo) McCutcheon and Bob Rees as well as supported by the many patrons of the Albany Blues Club.
The Southern Right Blues Band are now regulars on the Albany pub circuit and have a growing legion of loyal fans.
The Southern Right Blues Band – Cool Blues. Done Right. From the coast of the Great Southern. 1pm, Sunday 11th February at Froth Craft Bunbrewery – Bunbury. Come soak up some good old Southern blues.

a Year of Blues Central

It is time to say thank you to the 81 musicians and the 21 bands who gave Bunbury 33 hours of absolutely awesome music at Blues Central in 2023. This was our first year and it has been like a serial music festival, with some of the best blues bands in Western Australia on show. Many travelled a great distance to spend time with us and for that we say a heart felt thanks. Thanks also to Pete Firth, Jen and Sarah and the Froth Crew for all the encouragement and support you unleashed. What a fabulous venue, what a fabulous bunch of people. Thanks to the ‘soundies’ Al and Jason for all your hard work getting the sound system cranked up, the South West Blues Club committee for working so hard to make this year happen, but most of all thanks to all those club members and fans who turned up each Sunday for our shows. 2024 will be a cracker with even more new bands, new musicians and songs you love and some you have yet to hear. Let’s keep the blues alive.

From the Chairman

Greetings Blues lovers.

Welcome to another year with the South West Blues Club. I hope you are all well, and have survived the festive season.

We have another exciting year planned, with many great bands joining us for our monthly Blues Central event at Froth Bunbrewery. Our January event features the sensational Whiskey Nips, supported by the South West’s own Brown Dog and the Mutleys. Please support the club by coming on down on Sunday, January 14th from 1.00pm. Remember to bring your club membership pick, to take advantage of the 10% discount from our wonderful hosts at Froth.

The following Sunday is our monthly jam day from 1.00pm, so add this to your calendar. More events are in the planning stage, and we will keep you informed.

We’ve noticed some people are unsure about their membership status, so I’ll take the opportunity to remind everyone that memberships fall due on 1st of December each year. If you want to check your status, please contact us by email at enquiries@southwestbluesclub.org.

Most importantly, support live music, and keep the blues alive in the south west.

Finally, a big thank you to our committee for volunteering their time, to keep this running.

Ron Kinson
President
South West Blues Club Inc.
