Home Brew is a five-piece blues band based in the South West of WA. Formed in 1999 by Guitarist Ron Kinson, the band has grown in strength to obtain a reputation as a fine Chicago style rhythm n’ blues band. The band has delighted local pub crowds and audiences at the South West Blues Club, Blues at Bridgetown, Capel Fest and Fairbridge Music Festival with their mix of uniquely interpreted blues covers and original songs. The performances appeal to a variety of audiences. Their solid rhythm section of Carl Holroyd – Bass and Jayden Williamson – Drums, lays down the foundation for Chris Gibb's driving harmonica, Mal Toft's fluid sax lines and Ron Kinson's tasteful mix of hard driving, finger picking and boogie guitar licks. The sax and harmonica combine to give an almost brass section quality to the sound.
In 2008 Home Brew took its brand of Chicago and Jump style blues to QLD to launch their much anticipated CD "Cynical Swing" at the Blues on Broadwater Festival. This was followed up in 2009 with performances at the Australian Blues Music Festival where they followed Mat Taylor and Phil Manning on stage at the prestigious Blues Music Awards night. 2009 also saw the band Head up to Bridgetown Blues Festival for a series of well received performances.
Recent changes in the band have seen long time guitarist ad Home Brew founder Ron Kinson leave the band and the band will be using a series of guest guitarists over the coming months.
Based in the South West of WA Home Brew is also the house band for the South West Blues Club. Whether backing the likes of Andy Cowan, Jan Preston and Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges or commanding the stage in their own right, they deliver a toe tappin, hip swinging sound that is sure to get you jumping.
