The South West Blues Club President Mike Hall selected as Judge for Australia’s most prestigious Blues Award

Mike Hall, President of the South West Blues Club, has been selected as one of only seven judges in Australia to judge the most prestigious blues awards in Australia, the Australian Blues Music 'Chain' Awards - all thanks to the Club’s success, hard working committee, members and people in the South West supporting the blues.

The Australian Blues Music Awards (originally known as the Goulburn Blues Music Awards) are presented each year to recognise excellence in Blues Music in Australia.

Mike’s selection on the panel represents a fantastic opportunity to put the South West Blues Club and the South West Region well and truly on the National and International Blues Scene map.

The South West Blues Club is the only not for profit club in the South West that has consistently brought top international and national blues acts to Bunbury since its conception 18 months ago.

The Club operates on the first Friday of the month at the Eliot Street Lounge Bar and hosts a New Years Eve party not to missed – this year the Perth Blues/Jump outfit, the Vibrolators, will present a Travelin’ Blues Road Show Spectacular featuring guest singers and players. Local Bluesmen Home Brew will be there as well.

Australian Blues Music Awards (originally known as the Goulburn Blues Music Awards) are presented each year to recognise excellence in Blues Music in Australia.
Named after Chain, the only blues band to have had a national number one hit in this country, the awards are based on recorded product only. Judging is done by panel of judges representing the various states and territories.
Winners are presented with a bronze statuette modelled on the Chain logo of a defiant Ned Kelly figure breaking chain shackles.
The Awards were first presented in 1997 as achievement awards to Chain stalwarts, Phil Manning and Matt Taylor, Godfather of Australian Blues Dutch Tilders, Foreday Riders founders, the legendary Ron and Jeff King.

1998 first saw the Awards in their present format, with the Mighty Reapers taking out the bulk of the awards. Blues Diva, Lil Fi, was the first recipient of the female vocal award, the first of her two wins in the category.
Other winners of the much sought after statuette have been, The Bellhops, Kate Meehan, Collard Greens & Gravy, Matt Corcoran, Lloyd Spiegel, Fiona Boyes, Geoff Achison, Mojo Webb, Anni Piper and Bluezone to name just a few.
The Australian Blues Music Awards are now recognised as the industry's most prestigious honour with nomination numbers growing exponentially since their inception.
These Judges Panel for the Awards is independent of the Australian Blues Music Festival Selection Panel.
